What is a QEP?
QEP stands for Quality Enhancement Plan. It’s a requirement of the higher education accreditation process done by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
What is Ignite?
Ignite is a Flagler College initiative to enhance student engagement through first-year learning communities. Ignite is Flagler’s QEP.
What are learning communities?
Students in learning communities take classes in different disciplines that are linked together by a theme. For example, Flagler’s Fall 2008 learning communities will study English, government, and art and collaborate on projects that explore the theme of “Understanding Power.”
Learning communities are designed to:
- provide a highly supportive and challenging learning environment
- involve students in their education, encouraging them to pursue meaningful academic challenges
- foster a sense of community and shared purpose among students and instructors
Ignite is a five-year commitment. For the first year of Ignite, Flagler is launching two pilot learning communities of about 20 freshman students each. Over the next five years, the college will create more learning communities and involve more students; eventually, all incoming freshman will participate in Ignite.
